Chicago Artists Month: Autotelic Studios Open House

  • Autotelic Studios 1856 N Richmond St Chicago, IL, 60647 United States (map)

Come by the studios for a Chicago Artists Month event!

Each month, Autotelic hosts a "hang-out" that brings all the studio artists together in an effort to foster community within the storefront, catch up on current projects and spark informal critique sessions. On Friday, October 17th, the Autotelic artists will open this gathering up to the public in conjunction with the quarterly Open Studios, and invite visitors inside for a peek at works-in-progress. Visitors will have the opportunity to join the artists in the back yard for a community BBQ and speak with each of the artists about their work over Autotelic-brewed beer and artist-made hors d'oeuvres. Stick around for live music by Josh Lava and take home a free print designed by the studio.

Autotelic Studios is a nonprofit art studio located in Logan Square. Exhibiting artists include Kailyn Perry, Ben Madeska, James T. Green, C'ne Rohlsen, Andi Crist, Alice Feldt, Alexandra Noe, Pilar Amado, Evan Carrison, Nick Lacke and Emily Breyer.

Josh Lava is a musical chameleon who has amassed an impressive and eclectic body of work as a multi-instrumentalist, producer/engineer, composer, and songwriter across the genre spectrum.  Whether he's composing for full orchestra, performing live with a jazz trio, or producing an electronic dance track, Josh is musically at home pretty much anywhere.

Lava has written and produced music for National Geographic, Sephora/Bare Escentuals Cosmetics, and Sony Music; performed with notable artists such as rock drumming legend Max Weinberg and the world-renowned string ensemble Kronos Quartet; engineered for 60's pop icon Ronnie Spector and the Rock Band/Guitar Hero video game series;
and has played on dozens of records that have been featured on television networks including CBS and WGN, television series such as New Girl and Bloomers, and various print media and radio including NPR, Time Out, Chicago Tribune, and The Onion A.V. Club. No matter what genre he's working in, Josh strives to create music that is equally rewarding to the head and the heart, merging sophistication with accessibility, intelligence with passion.
